We at Smiths Beach Action Group are raising are raising a $50,000 fighting fund due to the fact the developers and investors of the Smiths Beach Project, combined, are worth a reported 1 billion dollars. And with that kind of power comes the use of hundreds of consultants and influence in the development process.

The Smiths Beach Fighting Fund will be use in the following ways:

  • PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Smiths Beach Action Group’s primary task has so far been to organize the community and raise awareness through events, workshops and info stalls about the proposed development. This work must continue given Hesperia’s failure to do so.

  • MEDIA & ADVOCACY STRATEGY

Hesperia has so far been able to keep the public in the dark about their plans and their strategy.

The Smiths Beach Action Group is advertising in the local media to ensure there is transparency and local democratic accountability in this process and to ensure that local community is properly informed.

  • CONSULTANCY COSTS

Hesperia, who is fronting this development, is one of Perth most prominent property developers with a large bank account and a large team of consultants working on this project, creating an inequality of arms.

The Smiths Beach Action Group wants to engage independent   consultants to assess the proposal to inform our advocacy and campaign and   the official community response in any future development proposal.
